I never knew Ray but he knew my family. He painted a picture of my grandfathers house in Dune Acres. He painted from the waters edge of the house and the seven children playing on the beach which depicted my dad and his siblings. I was told that Ray had a house next door or just down the beach. So many of us have a copy hanging in our homes today. The house is still there but our family has long been gone. The youngest of my dad's siblings, who maybe knew Ray, is still with us and has recently relocated back to Chicago to be close to home. It is a painting that is loved by all.

I worked as a Secretary, at Ray-Vogue, from 1965 to 1972. I remember Mr. Ray with fondness. He was always most friendly with a great sense of humor. I just found out today (April 8, 2011). My sister, in IL, informed me as I now reside in OH. My sincere condolences to Mr. Ray's wife and family. Margaret Skoczylas Pauper

John and I dearly loved Wade and Helen and cherish the memories of the dunes, and weekend trips full of laughter inspired often by Wade's quick humor. "A Train To Spain" is still on one of my children's bookshelf. Please accept our love and sympathy at this time.

My sincere condolences to Wade's family. He was a talented, gracious and kind spirited man . I painted with him for many years at the Evanston Art Center and he always was encouraging and upbeat to myself and other artists there.
His delightfully fresh watercolors were inspiring to many. We will miss him greatly.

My condolences to Mr. Ray's family. He was "Mr. Ray" to me and the other students at Ray Vogue back in 1967. When he walked off the elevator and on to the 7th floor Commercial Art room he had this remarkable presence, but it wasn't at all pretentious - he was a warm person with a great smile. He will be missed.

My sympathy to David and Andy. Wade hired me 25 years ago this January to teach design at Ray College in Chicago. I worked with Wade and his son David. I also had Andy in my class. It was an opportunity that has allowed me to continue practicing as an artist and raise my family in Chicago over the years,- I am saddened by the loss. My condolences to the Ray family.

Even though I had only met Wade a year ago we had had
some great conversations whenever we saw each other
and I feel like I have lost a really close friend. I am grateful
for knowing him even though it was for only a short time.
I extend my sympathy to all his family.

When I was a little girl at Porter Beach I would watch Wade paint while sitting on the dunes. As I child I thought his paintings looked splotchy but as an adult attending the brother sister show I fell in love with his work. I remember a painting of a drawing room/salon with an oriental carpet and another of the plastic bulls in a huge herd going down Michigan Avenue in front of the Art Institute. His work was so fresh and engaging and he was a really nice neighbor.

To the Wade Family,
Thank you for sharing Wade with all his fellow artists including myself. He was a good friend and mentor to all of us who took art classes with him and entered art shows together. His whimsical paintings with beautiful colorings were an inspiration to us. The St. Francis Xavier Art Guild has decided to name our annual fall show the "Wade Ray Memorial Art Show."We extend our deepest sympathy and regret we could not attend his funeral since we just arrived in Florida for the winter.
Sincerely,Ed & Mary Willer
