Bettie Harp Obituary

BETTIE H. HARP Bettie H. Harp passed away December 6, 2018 at the age of 93. Bettie was born July 15, 1925 in Redding, CA to Joseph and Mae Castro. She graduated from Shasta High School in 1943 and Chico State College in 1947. While attending Chico State College, Bettie was very active in the Biology Honors Society Omicron Theta Epsilon and in the social sorority Delta Sigma Epsilon, serving as President of both organizations. Bettie taught elementary school in the Gridley School District for 38 years, retiring in 1985. She loved her students and loved receiving cards and notes from past students for 30 years after she retired. The other love of her life was Orville Harp, who she married in 1947. Together, they enjoyed their cabin at Lake Almanor, gardening, and almost never missed one of their sons' many games. Later, Bettie always loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Bettie was predeceased by her husband, Orville, and her two sisters: Mae Anthony and Dorothy Carmona, both of Redding, CA, and a brother, Joseph Castro of Mexico. Bettie is survived by her two sons: Robert (Lynn) of Chico, and Richard (Karen) of Gridley, four grandsons, and a great-granddaughter. Per her request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Gridley Education Foundation classroom grant program, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
