DOUGLAS SUNDBY Obituary

DOUGLAS CHARLES SUNDBY

Douglas Charles Sundby was born in Oakland, CA 11/3/1928 to Harold and Margaret Sundby. He died 2/13/2010 from heart disease while in the final stages of Alzheimer's.

Doug grew up and attended school in Hayward, CA. After serving in the Army he moved to Chico to attend college. He married Eleanor Wilson in 1950 and together they raised Eric, Kirk, and Mark. During his college years he was active in music, little theater and served as Student Body President in 1951. He belonged to the Alpha Psi Omega, National Honorary Dramatics Fraternity and Iota Sigma Fraternity. After graduating with a degree in Secondary Music, he became Placement Director for Chico State. From there he went to KHSL-TV doing broadcasting and hosting a popular children's entertainment television show. He had the Flagstaff beer distributorship for 6 years, played string bass in dance bands and performed in Community Theater.

In 1965 the family moved to British Columbia, Canada, where he began a career in Real Estate. He served as President of the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board. During this time he took flying lessons and went on to obtain a commercial pilot's license.

He came back to Chico, CA in 1980, working at KHSL then returned to real estate with Coldwell Banker DuFour Realty. There he became a top producer for several years before retiring. During this time he was active in the Noon Exchange Club, Salvation Army Board, Masonic Lodge, Chico Museum Board, Enloe Foundation and the Piscatorial & Convivial Society.

In 1988 he married Nancy McCartney and added her daughter, Sheila Creel, husband Ron, and Nancy's son, Michael Earley to his family.

He was a proud and loving grandfather to Ben, Alison, Anna, Kara, Jonathan Sundby and Caroline and Mary Creel.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to honor Doug Sundby with an Act of Kindness of your own choosing.

We were so sorry to hear of Doug's passing. He was one of the neighborhood kids as we were growing up. Those were good times. Sincerely, Walt & Barbara Trobee

Doug Sundby will always be remembered as a close friend. And as a business associate in our Miller-Carnegie & Sundby Advertising Agency in Chico until he moved to Canada in 1965. His talent as a gifted entertainer and performer added a valuable element of creativity to our Agency. We worked together at KHSL-TV. Doug hosted a children's TV Show there and was instrumental in my becoming the host of "Don's Cartoon Club" another children's entertainment show on KHSL-TV starting in 1958. Although I moved to Placerville and Doug stayed in Chico, we continued our friendship. Doug flew his plane to meet me in Placerville and then on to Hollywood-Burbank Airport where we picked up Motion Picture and TV Celebrity Forrest Tucker and family. Tucker was spokesman in a TV commercial I was producing. "Tuck" and Doug were instant friends. Doug landed us at Columbia Airport before returning to Chico. When time permits, I shall add a photo of Doug with his airplane taken at Placerville Airport. Wish I could have spent more time with Doug in his later years, but the time we did spend together is still fresh in my mind. Best wishes and condolences to family and friends. Please help keep this Guest Book active so Doug can continue being a part of our lives. I miss him.
