- "Are you living to work - or working to live?"
- Thinking about a friend, today. Coming from a family and culture where men and women often work 35 or 40 years or more ...for the SAME employer... or at least in the SAME industry, the question above was asked of me by my dear and departed friend Emmitt Posey (1943-2017), born in Tucumcari NM. For me, Emmitt was the "big brother I never had." He was a determined friend and leader. It was impossible to NOT like this guy! - Many of you "rails" knew him and one thing is certain... Every day of his life, I believe he got up in the morning with a grin on his face and was self-aware - that whatever the challenge - he could find a way to adapt and overcome. He was an inspiration to many - and to me, in particular as I wandered through my own maze of life. Rest in Peace, Brother!

Thinking of Emmitt today upon hearing of the fires near Ruidoso, NM. I remember his kindness to my mom after my dad passed away -- she was progressing in Alzheimer's, and Emmitt called me regularly just to check up on her and see how we were doing. I appreciate his kindness to this day.

Time marches on, but it doesn't seem like three (3) years have gone by since Emmitt's passing! Throughout the last several years, my mind drifts occasionally to how sad it was to lose Emmitt, but rejoice in the memories of him over the years! He was one of the finest people you'd every meet and a joy to be around - the question during Posey get togethers was, "Is Emmitt going to be there"!! Emmitt was always the guiding light to the Posey tradition!! It's sad you're gone, but oh, what found memories I hold of you!!

I served in the Navy with Emmitt in Washington DC where we were roommates. We went to a Polo match there, dressed as cowboys, we were a sight ! We had fun those days and just found out today about his passing. Blessings on his memory and his family. He was one of those guys you meet that you'll never forget-thanks for the memories!

It has been over 40 years since I have seen Emmitt but I remember him like it was yesterday. He was one of those people you could not see for years and then take right up where you left off.
The world is poorer now. My condolences to all who had the privilege to know him. - David Hughes

Emmitt was a great family friend. The railroad family lost a great man. Anyone who worked with him will say the same. Stand up guy. I have a lot of fond memories of Emmitt. RIP my friend.

So sorry to hear about Emmitt's passing. He was a couple of years ahead of me in high school, but was very friendly to this "lower classmate." That friendship grew as we worked together on the railroad. He was one of the fairest managers I ever had the pleasure to work for. Just a great guy. He will be greatly missed by his family and all of us who knew him.
