Gordon Padgett Obituary

GORDON GORDY GOLDSBERRY PADGETT Gordon "Gordy Goldsberry" Padgett at the request of his sisters, their baby brother Gordon was finally born on November 18th 1950. At his request he was allowed to slip away on December 6th 2022 and therefore was able to rejoin his many friends, family members and beloved four legged companions who had gone on ahead and were waiting for him. He had missed them terribly for oh so long, especially his Mom and big sister Nancy. His folks were Bill and Virginia Padgett and he was a little brother to Bobby, Alan, Nancy and Barbara. He was born at Enloe Hospital, graduated from Chico High School in 1968 and eventually settled in to a thirty+ year career at the Chico Post Office. He was a car enthusiast, always owned a number of them, and enjoyed telling of his "exploit's" of "drag racing" on the Esplanade in his youth. Also, what a thrill for him many years later to still be recognized as being the "slot" car king. He was the sweetest, funniest, most generous little brother and friend. He is survived by brother Bobby of Roseville, and sister Barb Gore of Durham. Also six nieces, a nephew, and wonderful and faithful friends Barbara and Dennis Walker and John Berry. Gordy loved well and was well loved. A get together to celebrate his life will be planned in the new year.

I worked with Gordy at the Chico post office for over 20 years. We were often alone on graveyard shift for hours and he always entertained me with his stories of cars, animals and the wonders of living in "Fishbowl Canyon." Ater I retired I always enjoyed running into him at the Roost or on Park Avenue with one of his many automotive treasures. Gordy was one of the hardest workers who gave 100% to the customers he served. I just learned of his passing from another postal employee at
the 2025 Memorial Day ceremony in Chico. I will certainly miss his presence in my life but he will never be forgotten. RIP

That's a great HS photo of Gordy! We were neighbors for 20 years in Forest Ranch. I always enjoyed visiting to watch TV, talk, or look for some meteors and stars on his big deck. He was a good friend for late night calls and to hear his Chico stories. He was rich in memorabilia and interesting art. Gosh, I really miss him, his tender heart and love for animals. Sister Barbara, he always spoke so kindly and loving of you and I know he had a lot of good friends. Love ya Gordy.

Gordy was a member of my little league team, the Eagles, in the late `50s in the Westside league. Great guy!

Over the years I'd see Gordon here and there and we'd talk about the good old days. He was friendly to everyone and will be remembered for his kindness.
