HAROLD (HAL) EDWARD THOMMEN 2/26/1929 to 8/11/2023 Chico lost a great man on Friday, 8/11/2023. His family lost an incredible father, grandfather, and great grandfather. A man that loved his family without question. Born in Santa Rosa, Ca and raised in Santa Rosa and Vallejo by his mother, and after his fathers' passing at a young age, an extended family. His career began as a Police officer in Vallejo. Then in 1960 he moved his family to Sacramento and started a career with State Farm Insurance. In 1965 he relocated his family to Chico and continued his career with State Farm as an Insurance Claim Superintendent until his retirement in 1994. Hal was a 50+ year life member of the Chico Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer (one of the original "Bandits"), enjoying weekly rounds at Bidwell Golf Course. For much of his life, Hal enjoyed bowling, playing Softball, Saturday afternoon Poker games and afternoon cocktails. Until last week, he played nightly games of cribbage with his son. Hal touched many lives. He had a zest for life and could always put a smile on your face. His booming voice and laughter could be easily recognized in any room. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Colleen Paddock Thommen, as well as Patricia MacCumber Thommen, wife of one year. He is survived by good friend Margie Jackson. As a father, he was unsurpassed. Strong, caring, a mentor and a best friend. He leaves behind daughter Lorie Hahne (Max), son Doug Thommen (Jill), daughter Paula Thommen, his grandchildren Kris Thommen (Courtney), Kara McCollum (Colby), Jesse Hahne (Bonnie) as well as four great grandsons, Brady, Deacon, Parker, and Charlie. Rest now Dadyou've earned it. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity. A celebration of life will be held at the Chico Elks Lodge, Sept. 17th, 2023, Noon - 3:00.
