On September 17, 1984 Dwight Gooden tied the record of 32 strikeouts in consecutive games. Reggie Jackson was the 13th member of the 500 home run club and Jacob Christopher Davis was born to love the game of baseball.

We met Jake about 6 or 7 years ago. Scott introduced him by telling him that he shared the same birthdate of 9/17 with me (Joanne). Right there I knew Jake would be on of our "special adopted sons". His smile would light up our house. He proved to be a special friend to Scott and we loved him for that. His now in "His Field of Dreams". Jake will be forever missed.

Jake you were our Tuesday night partner in crime and had I known that this day would come, I would have never missed out on last weeks "bible study" if that meant I got to see you one more time. I will always miss you and Vernon playing out that scene in Forest Gump. You were the most kind, loving person who would not hesitate to help someone out. You have taught me and many more an important lesson: that life is unpredictable and to take nothing for granted; To soak up life and never forget that nothing is every "too" important. I am sorry that I never got to watch Harlem Nights with you and Vernon. Jake, I hope you are playing baseball everyday!!!
Psst...Jake...one more thing...its okay to talk now....

Jayna and the Roberts family,
May you be comforted by those around you and the prayers of the saints. We just know that God has control, and not us. May you know that Frank and I are lifting your family and Jake's in our prayers. Our love, prayers and sympathy,

Jake i'm going to miss you so much!! You have always been there for me no matter what i was going through in my life. It pains me so much to know that you will not be here physically, but only in spirit. I know time will heal my heart, but i will miss my best friend! I'm going to miss our times together doing the things we loved so much(watching football, movies, having beers together, and the many other adventures we would share. The weekend of April 17-19, 2009 will always be a special memory for me! I want everyone to know you are my little brother as well. I'm truly going to miss our Forest Gump routine that we would do to make everyone around us laugh when we would meet up at our spot on tueday nights. I will miss all the calls and the long talks. There is this lyric from a song that says,"death has got to be easy cause life is hard." Well, my life just got a whole lot harder without you not being around. I look forward to meeting up with you again and hearing you say, what up!! I love you and rest in peace my brother!!

Jake was always there for Vernon and I. No matter what the situation may have been. If I was moving, he helped. If my nieces had a fundraiser, he helped (even if he couldn't afford it). We watched football all of the time together. If I couldn't be there to watch with him and Vernon, there were numerous text messages going back and forth. The three of us were a tri-pod.

Jake was truly the little brother I never had. I am forever grateful for the time I spent with him. We had some laughs, shed some tears, and had a few beers! I loved him with all of my heart. I know he is getting his catcher's gear on getting ready for his next game on the diamond in the sky (probably quoting the movie Major League)!

Until we meet again, brother!!!
