Kathleen Ludy Obituary

KATHLEEN ADA LUDY Kathleen Ada Ludy, 91, passed away peacefully on November 28th, 2013 at her home in Butte City, California. Kathleen was born on October 31, 1922, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to James and Ada Wright. After a harsh autumn, her family immigrated to San Francisco and soon there after to Chico, where her father, a professional photographer, founded Wrights Studio and Camera Shop. Kathleen attended local Chico schools and graduated with honors from Chico High School, Class of 1940. She continued her education and graduated from Golden Empire College of Commerce. Upon graduating, Kathleen enlisted in the US Navy, where she proudly served 3½yrs. in the Communication Division sending and deciphering classified messages at the North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego during the War years, earning the rank of RM2C. Following her discharge at the end of the War, she returned to Chico and worked for Sam Fortino Real Estate and Investment Company in Chico. She married Fay B. Ludy on May 18, 1946 in a rare triple wedding ceremony with her two sisters at the Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian Church. Kathleen and her husband settled in Butte City, California on his family farm in 1948. She was founder of the Butte City/Princeton PTA as well as an active member in the Butte City Church, the local Ladies Aid Society, and served as director of the Marvin Chapel Cemetery District. Kathleen became very active in the International Order Rainbow for Girls, Colusa County Assembly #59, serving as Mother Advisor and receiving the Grand Cross of Color. She was also a very active member of Wild Rose Chapter #326, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Deputy Grand Matron in 1984. Kathleen remained an active member in the small community of Butte City for the last 65 years and had become a pillar of strength and support for family and friends alike. She enjoyed tending her yard and took pride in her gardening skills and its results. She highly valued family history and genealogy. She was also working on compiling historic information concerning the Glenn County/Butte City area. Kathleen was well known for her pie making abilities and developed an active interest in trying new recipes all the while becoming an avid recipe collector. She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 yrs, Fay Ludy, daughter Carol Sneed, her two sisters Beryl Gray Stockel and Marie Stilley, and her brother McKenzie Wright. She is survived by her son Walter Ludy, daughter Cheryl Ludy, grand -daughters Angela Christensen and April Fatovich, great grand daughters Autumn Fatovich and Lily Christensen, and a great grandson Oliver Christensen, along with numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at Brusie Funeral Home on Thursday, December 5th at 10AM, with interment following at Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital.
