Kevin Stern Obituary

KEVIN STERN Kevin Stern, 65, of Dallas, Texas, passed away after a long illness, on Sunday, January 7th. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 24, 1958. Kevin grew up in Chico, California. He was active in Boy Scouts earning his Eagle Scout at 13 followed by the Order of the Arrow. After graduating from Chico High in 1976, Kevin attended CSU, Chico where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Management/Recreation Administration. During his college years, he was involved with the College Class at Neighborhood Church. Kevin married Kelly Bunch on August 28, 1982. They moved to Dallas in 1984 so Kevin could attend Dallas Theological Seminary. He earned his Master of Theology in 1989. Kevin was an ordained minister in the State of Texas. He was the Dallas Seminary Bookstore Director for almost 30 years. His love of books, knowledge of Scripture, and leadership style were ideal for this position. Illness forced him to retire early in 2020. Kevin is survived by his wife, Kelly, and his sister, Sharon Stern of Chico. A Celebration of Kevin's life will be held at Trinity Fellowship Church in Richardson, Texas on Wednesday, January 17 at 5pm Central Standard Time (3pm Pacific). It will be live streamed and can be viewed at https://facebook.com/trinityfellowship/live. A recording of the service will be available on the church website, if you are not able to watch live.

It couldn't have been a more idyllic childhood growing up in Chico with Kevin (& Steve E) as friends. We rode bikes everywhere and Kevin always seemed to have some new adventure for us to jump in to. Always kind and always smiling..he was a good friend to have. It was also nice that he was about a foot taller than all of us so we wouldn't be too worried about what we might run in to. Hard to accept that he is gone from this world. My condolences to Kelly and Sharon.

I first met Kevin in 8th grade and I always remember what a truly funny guy he was. He always had the the driest, funniest, most thoughtful comments pointing out the absurdities of Junior High and High School. We reconnected decades later when he was youth minister at the Neighborhood Church. I was teaching at Chico High School and we shared some kids. They were telling me how wonderful he was and I said that I had some stories that he probably not want shared. They said "he told us you would say that and wanted us to point out that there were stories about you we might also here about you." I laughed out loud we never shared any stories.
