Laura Smith Obituary

LAURA SMITH In Loving Memory of Laura Smith who passed away following a gallant battle against old age at her home in Chico at age 89. It is with great sorrow and yet great rejoicing that we say goodbye, and in the end it's not the years in your life that count but the life in your years. Laura was born in Sturgis, South Dakota to Ross and Lillian Tombaugh on September 8, 1926 and moved to Chico in 1990 with her late husband Raymond Smith. Laura will be remembered for living an active life and touching many lives around her. She enjoyed walking in Bidwell Park everyday and traveling to many places with her family. She had many friends at her church the New Beginnings Fellowship. Laura was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great- Grandmother. She is survived by her son David Wood (Teri Le Force); daughter Diane Wood (cat Slick); Granddaughter Ericka Wood-Drew (Daniel Drew); and Great-Grandchildren Wyatt and Maizy Drew. The service will be held at Newton Bracewell Funeral Home on Saturday January 23rd at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to be made to your favorite charity. There will be a celebration of life following the service at 1674 Cooks Way in Chico. To view her longer obituary, send condolences, or share memories of Laura, go online to NBCFH.com.

Laura was a very good friend of mine. We spent many days walking in Bidwell park. We were the only widows at our church so we shared time together. I remember her for her loving caring heart. Her daughter was just as great a friend to me also, but I never got to be close to her son. I did have a wonderful time with his daughter and her 2 children though, when they came from Healdsburg to visit her when she was in rehab from a fall. I will miss her so much but am so happy for her. She is now enjoying her new body that is without restrictions and can feel no pain. She is such a testament to the way Jesus would have acted towards family and friends. I really loved her so much and will really miss her alot.
