LORENE VENDER Obituary

LORENE VENDER

Lorene (Mack) Vender passed away on Sunday morning, March 18, 2012, with her devoted family by her side. She fought a BRAVE battle with a brain tumor for over a year.

Lorene was born to Walter and Dorothy Mack on March 9, 1938 in James Town, California. During her school years, she attended Citrus Elementary, Central Junior High, and completed her education at Chico Senior High School. She was part of the graduating class of 1955, of which she was quite proud. She worked on their committee for every reunion. After graduation, she went to work for Bank of America, and then moved to San Diego. It was there that she met her future husband, Danny Vender, who was stationed there with the US Navy. Later, they moved to Oakland and finally settled upon Chico in 1963. She began working for Chico Unified School District in the cafeteria in 1972. She loved the students and her work in the schools. She worked her way up to the Head Cook position and retired from Bidwell Junior High School in 2000, after 28 years of service.

Lorene loved to socializing with her many friends, some of whom are referred to lovingly by her family as "The Broomsters." Lorene and the ladies enjoyed playing various types of card games. Along with these same friends, she took annual vacations and always had a great time (especially when they took the limo home from the airport)!

Lorene leaves behind her loving husband, Danny, to whom she was married for 54½wonderful years, as well as three adoring daughters, Lori Mullikin (Scott), LeeAnn Near, and Amy Stoklasa (Anthony); her (favorite) granddaughter, Amanda Near, and grandsons (her boys), Danny Mullikin, Shane Mullikin, Cody Mullikin, and Austin Near. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Grace Njirich.

The family is planning a big party/backyard BBQ at a later date in celebration of Lorene's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Enloe Hospice, or your favorite charity.

Arrangements were taken care of through the Neptune Society.

To know a person for over 60 years is a precious thing. While I can not say that I spent as much time with my Aunt Lorene as I had hoped, I have the good fortune to have wonderful memories of her over the years as I grew up.

There is a great picture of my aunt holding me next to her sister (my mother) when I was about a year old and I was crying my eyes out and both she and my mother had the most beautiful smiles on their faces, in spite of my little crying fit. From that day on to the very last time I visited with Aunt Lorene she always had that wonderful welcoming, loving smile the moment she would see me. Always a smile and always something fun to talk about and have a good laugh together. She was fortunate enough to marry a man, my uncle Danny that had the same loving character and personality, charm and kindness. If ever there were two people who belonged together it was my aunt Lorene and my uncle Danny.

During the time of Lorene's illness her family exuded the same kindness that their parents have by calling me and keeping me informed of Loren's condition. I appreciate that kindness and will never forget it.

I will choose to remember my aunt's smile and the fun she brought into my life, during the times that I mourn her passing and hope that my uncle Danny and my cousins, Lori, Lee Ann and Amy, will find the same peace in that wonderful smile she shared with us all during her life.

With love to you all,

Chris Njirich

(Oh Lord, please let this one go through ok, lol.) Hi Renie. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to tell you how wonderful I think you are, and that I will always keep the message you left on my phone apologizing for "crying " on me the day before. And then telling me that the first treatment wasn't so bad after all. You were so afraid you night have upset me. You said you were just a little scared, that's all. That call was so like you Renie. So worried you might have upset me. I love you so for always having a positive attitude on life, embracing each day up until the very end, you and Danny raising 3 darling daughters together, creating such a wonderful marriage. What a woman. Love U, Linda Lou

I had such good talks with you last summer. You were getting crabby and went to bed early. I came in into the bedroom and you were trying to get the T.V. on. I put on the only DVD they had. Red Sikeltion. I crawled up on the bed with you and put my hand on your arm and we watched T.V. For a while. Then you started talking about so many things. Your cancer, your feelings and your girls. I felt like I got a lesson on life that evening. Thank you for trusting me with your thoughts I will remember it always. I smile at you every day. See you soon, love Vickie

God bless Lorene and may her soul rest in peace. It's always sad to hear of another high school classmate pass to another life, but another reminder, we are all going there and it's never too late to become closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
