MARK GERVAIS Obituary

MARK GERVAIS

Mark 'Wilbur' Gervais will be sorely missed by his CUSD family.

Wilbur began with CUSD as a substitute Custodian in May of 1997. In June of 1999, he became the permanent custodian at Neal Dow, where he remained until 2002. He then served in a split position as Sr. Custodian at Cohasset School and Custodian at Chico High School. After spending a year as Sr. Custodian at Emma Wilson, Wilbur was hired as part of the M&O Roving Crew, where he was also responsible for the District Office and Corporation Yard.

In April 2006, Wilbur was selected as the Senior Custodian for AFC. In this position, Wilbur became mentor and surrogate father to some of our most at-risk students. It was clear to all who visited AFC that Wilbur played a huge role in not only the atmosphere of the school, but in the lives of the students attending there. While at AFC, Wilbur underwent major surgery to repair a leak in his lungs. He rebounded more quickly than any of the doctors expected. Upon his return to AFC after the surgery, Wilbur stated that he had to heal quickly as he "missed his AFC family and they sure needed him more than any hospital did."

After the consolidation of AFC onto the Fair View campus, Mark became Sr. Custodian at Chico High School.

Our thoughts and best wishes go out to his family, which in this case most definitely includes the students and staff at both AFC and Chico High.

Mark, I will miss the sound of you bike riding by my house. I remember when you got that Harley. You let me ride it up and down the street. I'll never forget that- it was the first time I ever rode a Harley! You were a great neighbor and friend. When I saw you in the emergency room I said we would talk later, well buddy, it's gonna be a little bit later but we will talk again. Cheers Mark, I will remember you fondly...

Mark,
I will fondly remember your friendship. Your serving spirit... always wanting to help. I'll remember you coming and helping with outside chores after my husband died. Our motorcycle rides and visits over a glass of wine. You were family! I will miss you.
