Susan Phelan Obituary

SUSAN ANN PHELAN Susan Ann Phelan, 72, of Oroville, CA, passed away on February 17, 2015. Born on January 10, 1943, in Marysville, CA, Susan was a Yuba-Sutter and Butte County resident most of her life. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1961 and retired from the Appeal-Democrat in 1994, after almost 30 years of service, where she started as a teletype setter and moved her way up to become Executive Assistant to the Publisher. Susan's greatest joys in life were spending time with her loving husband, Robert, and her family. She also enjoyed working in her yard, going for drives in the country, playing golf, spending time with friends, and doing crossword puzzles. Her ready smile, positive outlook, calming presence, and loving guidance will be truly missed. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Bishop, mother, Mary Bishop Dugan, and brother Paul Bishop. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Robert Phelan, daughter, Leslie Cena (Gary) of Marysville, CA, granddaughter, Kelsey Cena of Orange, CA, stepson Ronald Phelan of Truckee, CA, grandson Casey Phelan of Truckee, CA, stepdaughter Julie Teesdale (Stephen), of Marysville, CA and grandson Sam Teesdale. Contributions can be made to the Oroville Rescue Mission Women and Children's Center, 4250 Lincoln Blvd., Oroville, CA, 95966. An open house will be held to celebrate Susan's life on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 1:00-3:00pm at the Phelan home, 200 La Mirada Ave., Oroville, CA 95966.

Such sad news about Susan. We shared so many wonderful years at MUHS. We also shared special times camping together and I have home movies reflecting that. My deepest sympathy to her family and all who will miss her.

My best 'picture' of Susan is a bright, warm smile; my best memories are of Susan, Kate and I playing together- the 3 very busy little cousins keeping our Grandmothers on their toes! Rest in peace, my dear.
