George J. Hutton Jr.

George J. Hutton, Jr., 84, passed away Monday July 19, 2010 in Bonifay. He was born and raised in Cincinnati Ohio, the son of George and Margarita Hutton. He graduated early from Withrow High School to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy where he received an honorable discharge after his tour of duty during WWII. He was a radio/ telegrapher operator on the Martin Mars aircraft. George was onboard for the Maiden (JATO) Jet-Assisted flight of the NATS Philippine Mars from Alameda Naval Air Station to Honolulu and back. George graduated from University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Radio Education in 1949. His first job was with a radio station in Covington, KY at which time he met his love Katherine Wickstrom, a nursing student at Jewish Hospital. After they wed, George & Kathy relocated to Miami, where they resided until 1976. He retired early from the Miami Herald, where he worked as a pressman & Crew Chief for over 20 years. After moving to Northwest Florida, George took a different career path and became a Postal worker in Chipley. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Marianna, Fl., the Panama City Chapter – Sons of The American Revolution, and the University of Cincinnati Alumni Association. George was an avid computer buff communicating with friends and family via email – something he did up until the day he passed.
George was preceded in death by his wife Katherine of 56 years.
He is survived by four children: Virginia Oatman (Jon), George J. Hutton III (Patti Jo), Beverly Zimmern (Bill) and James Hutton (Robin); nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sunday Aug. 8, 2010 at 4 PM in St Luke's Episcopal Church Marianna.
