Alice L. Suckow, age 92, of Menomonie, formerly of Elk Mound, passed away quietly on Friday, June 23, 2006, surrounded by family.
Alice was born June 4, 1914, the daughter of Benjamin and Ernestine (Brooks) Liermann. She was raised in Knapp and graduated from Knapp Grade School and Menomonie High School. After high school, she attended and graduated from Dunn County Normal with a degree in business.
Alice worked as a bookkeeper for the Knapp Creamery until she married Howard Suckow on Oct. 1, 1938, at the Methodist parsonage in Elmwood. After marriage, they lived for a short time in Rusk, before moving to Elk Mound, where Alice stayed home to raise her family.
Alice was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Elk Mound and the Dunn County Homemakers. She served on the Elk Mound Election Board for more than 50 years and was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of the Elk Mound PTA and an Elk Mound band and athletic parent. Alice was recently inducted into the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Alice is survived by her son, Dennis (Betsy) of Marshfield; one daughter, Karla Jean (Rev. Philip) Bushy of Hudson; two granddaughters, Caroline (Jim) Walter of Granton and Linda (Bobby) Lang of Marshfield; four great-grandchildren, Hannah and Megan Walter and Quincy and Bennett Lang; two sisters, Ernestine Prinkey of Albuquerque, N.M., and Louise (Cpt. Leland ret.) Kirkemo of Oak Harbor, Wash.; two brothers-in-law, Harold Kruetzer of Menomonie and George (Mervyn) Suckow of Lillian, Ala.; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; two sons, Bruce and Allen; a sister-in-law, Lila Kruetzer; and a brother-in-law, Marle Prinkey Sr.
Memorials, if desired, can be made in Alice's name to the organization of the donor's choice or the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Elk Mound with the Rev. Margaret DeMaris officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Knapp.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie, where an Order of the Eastern Star service is scheduled at 7 p.m., and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
