Catherine Carroll Obituary

Catherine Joan Carroll

August 19, 1937 - July 3, 2025

Catherine Joan Cooney Carroll passed away at Good Samaritan on Thursday, July 03, 2025, at the age of 87 while under Hospice care.

Catherine was kind, caring, strong-willed, dependable, and always made time for others. She was exceptionally creative and had great organizational skills, mastering the very early use of computers.

Catherine was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin on 19 August 1937 to parents John Cooney and Laura Reiter and attended Notre Dame grade school and McDonell high school (class of '55) in Chippewa, then graduated from St Mary's Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota ('58). She married Joseph E Carroll in Chippewa on 20 June 1959. She and Joe made their home in the Minneapolis area, initially living in Columbia Heights, Brooklyn Center, New Brighton, and then in Hopkins from 1962 to 1964. Eventually they then settled on Queens Way in Minnetonka for the next 40 years, raising their six kids.

Catherine served as a nurse in a grade school, was involved with Joe in African American Studies, volunteered and worked at the Cancer Society, and developed her own craft business that took her all over Minnesota and to Chicago. In later years she and her sister Mary went on several car trips, and many shenanigans in Las Vegas. Upon retirement she & Joe went on two Alaska cruises, about a dozen trips to Ireland, survived a cancer scare (2001), and enjoyed several family vacations at Hungry Jack just outside of the Boundary Waters, while moving to a condo in Victoria (2005), and then on to the New Perspectives senior home in Waconia (2023).

She is survived by her husband Joe Carroll and their six children: Ellen Bittner, Lynda Polingo (John), Dianne Milek (Dave), Kathleen Stimson, Daniel (Karen Eddy), and Toby (Lauren Bear), as well as 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Tom Cooney (Marie Hurt). She was proceeded in death by her parents, her sister Mary DeWitt (Tom) and brother John (Jill Malison).

She will be missed by husband, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, relatives, friends, and acquaintances. Many thanks for the exceptional care given by hospital and Hospice staff.
