BLOOMER - Erwin J. Smetana, 95, of Bloomer passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Erwin was born on May 29, 1910, in Bloomer, to Joseph and Theresa (Stoffel) Smetana. He married Bernardine “Bunnie" Martin on Nov. 4, 1943, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Tilden. Together they operated a dairy farm in the town of Woodmohr until 1980. Their farm included the family farm founded by Erwin's parents in 1900. Erwin truly enjoyed the farming lifestyle and was proud of his Bohemian roots. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer where Bunnie taught for many years.
He is survived by: two sons, Martin Smetana of Chippewa Falls and Daniel (Dana) Smetana of Eau Claire; five daughters, Alice (Richard) Meyer of Eau Claire, Rose Ann Beseth of Santa Monica, Calif., Eileen (Robert) Sommerfeld of Cadott, Maureen Smetana of Eau Claire and Barbara (Thomas) Kass of Spokane, Wash.; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Bunnie; brothers, Raymond, Albert and Jerome Smetana; and sisters, Mary Schneider and Lucille Schneider.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Bloomer with Father James Arthur officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's South Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the Schriver Funeral Chapel, Bloomer. There will be a 7:30 p.m. Christian Wake Service Friday at the Funeral Chapel.
