EAU CLAIRE - Magdalen M. (Gabert) Nelson, 90, of 321 Lafayette St., Chippewa Falls, died in peace after a brief illness, with her surviving children at her side, on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Magdalen was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Boyd to Anna (Ryba) and Joseph Gabert.
She married William A. Nelson on June 14, 1941, in Boyd.
After raising her children she worked at the Naborhood Bakery in Chippewa Falls. She then worked as a dietary aide at the Chippewa Manor from 1967-1982, when she retired.
She is survived by: four children, Judy (Nelson) Kastern of Cecil, Roland "Buzz" (Lynne) Nelson of LaCrosse, James Nelson of Chippewa Falls and Mary Nelson of LaCrosse; a brother Gervase (Carole) Gabert of Federal Way, Wash.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband William in 1982; a son Roger E. Nelson; two sisters, Evelyn and Anita; and two brothers, Raymond and Milton.
All friends and family are asked to remember her presence by attending funeral services to be held on Friday, May 29 at the Holy Ghost Parish Church. At Magdalen's request, there will not be a traditional wake; however, a visitation in the church vestibule will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m., followed by a noon Mass of Christian Burial. Following interment at Hope Cemetery, a lunch will be held at the parish church, to which all are invited.
Memorials are preferred in one of two forms: mass offerings at Holy Ghost Parish by calling (715) 723-4890; or by making a gift to the Holy Ghost PCCW (St. Anne's Club) via the same phone number.
Members of the Holy Ghost Parish will remember Mag as a volunteer task master and as a tormenting teaser. Her surviving family members will likewise recall her insistence on toil and her loving teasing, which kept all in her presence humorously on task.
