Marlene Canon Obituary

Marlene M. Canon, 77, of Menomonie, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at her home.

I enjoyed 77 years of life, every second of jubilance, each trying minute, and the hours of viewing nature's wonders. Even as my body aged, wrinkles appeared, hair came and went, joints retired, I enjoyed life with the vibrancy of a 17 year old.

My journey included adolescent years in Hollandale, family life with my adoring husband, Merlin (Bud), and nurturing my three treasures, Marianne, Jerry and Mike in Hazel Green and my golden years in Menomonie surrounded by Jerry's family - his wife Sandy, children Kiana, Sierra and Ben and Mike's family - his wife Caitlin, children Xio and Maya, and my loving daughter Marianne.

While at Stout or driving my magic bus in Menomonie, Dubuque and Hazel Green, I always had a song to sing or joined in on the kid's silly pranks. Kids are the eternal flame.

I will soon have a skybox seat to see all of my grandchildren's events. If you listen closely, you will still hear my ill-timed coughs when an opponent shoots a free throw. If your hands dampen before you begin to sing, it is from my hand gently holding yours. On your many travels, if you listen closely, the calming breezes will carry my guiding words to you. I love each and every one of you. You were my pride and joy.

I can't wait to hug my husband; this time I'll never let go. I will sit with mom and dad and talk for hours about their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I will finally get to see daddy's Big Sky Bowling alley, listen for the thunder caused by a strike I just rolled.

Donna, Faye, Winnie and John, I will hug mom, and dad tell them how many times you were there to support me. Mary and I will now watch over you.

I hope heaven has a big front yard, with many lawn chairs for my many friends, those in heaven and those to come ... and lots of ice tea.

I reluctantly leave my warm and comfortable home. I fought through much pain to stay, but God chose cancer as his last but, defining obstacle. April 17, 2014 was my final earthly day. I leave behind my family and friends. I will patiently await your arrival in heaven. As the gates of heaven open for you, look for the yellow bus, listen, and you will hear me singing, "The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round..."

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Menomonie, with Father Tom Krieg officiating. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the memorial service.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Hollandale, with a luncheon following.
