Ruby Grace Gums, age 74, of rural Elk Mound, died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie where she has resided the past three years.
She was born on Aug. 5, 1933, in the town of Albany, Pepin County, the daughter of the late Henry and Ruth (Lawler) Hacker. On Aug. 19, 1952, Ruby was united in marriage to August Gums in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 2005.
Ruby was a homemaker for most of her life, dedicating herself to raising her family. She loved cooking and canning from the gardens that she grew over the years. In her later years, Ruby found great reward in helping raise her loving grandchildren. All in all, Ruby's life always revolved around her family.
Ruby will be sadly missed by her children, Danny Gums of Mondovi, Jane Bursaw of Mondovi, Dale (Jeannie) Gums of Mondovi, Terry Gums of Menomonie, Jackie Berg of Chippewa Falls, Mike Gums of Elk Mound, and Pat (Sherry) Gums of Eau Claire; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosmond Hacker of Richfield, Minn.; four brothers, Clayton (Mary Jane) Hacker of Appleton, Henry (Betty) Hacker of Eau Claire, Harlan (Marjorie) Hacker of Ft. Benton, Mont., and Charles Hacker of Minneapolis; many nieces, nephews and friends; and the special staff at American Lutheran Home of Menomonie.
Besides her parents and husband, August, a son-in-law, Babe Bursaw, and brother, Clinton, preceded Ruby in death.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at the Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home in Mondovi with the Rev. Paul Pillman officiating. Burial will be in East Pepin Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007) and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home.
