Celebrating the Home-Going of our Beloved
It is with extreme sadness that we announce NaTasha Danyale Gums, 48, of
Toledo, Ohio. Gained her wings the Monday morning of September 9th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
NaTasha, Toodles, Mommy, Glitter, Tasha, Peaches, Sincere was born March 3rd, 1976 before her parents, Dorothy McKinney and Edward Franklin in
Toledo, OH. NaTasha was raised by both of her parents, spending time in
Toledo, OH with her mother and eldest brother Marquis McKinney and then up in Detroit with her father and two older sisters Shavon Baker and Gabrielle Jackson. She was the youngest child born to both of her parents. In her childhood she grew up very close to her mother, loved, happy, and spoiled as she would say. She grew up on the west side of Toledo where she attended Nathan Hale Elementary School. She later attended Scott High School where she was a straight "A" student. Graduating class of 1995, she played percussion in the Scott marching band. In her high school career she also attended college courses at The University of Toledo's Upward Bound program simultaneously as a senior in high school, and was known to be quite feisty despite being 5'2". Post high school NaTasha would go on to work in different industries including home healthcare and Bartz Viviano, but entrepreneurship was most ideal for her. Above all she was a Child of God, Daughter, A Beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, and Confidant.
When NaTasha had her first child, Na'Tyia, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. NaTasha excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of our family, through and through. She was an excellent gift giver, always knew the right thing to say and never missed a special date. Whether it was supporting Wynter or encouraging NaJayé, to embrace life with an infectious enthusiasm. She was our constant cheerleader and biggest supporter she made sure to always have our back. Never missing the opportunity to dote on her children or grandchildren, whom she often referred to as "her Diamonds and her Pearls". Her children adored her and they wouldn't be who they are today without her.
NaTasha immediately lit up any room she entered and made an impact on so many people. She was a joyful presence with her colorful clothes, beautiful hair, creative fashion choices, and bubbly personality. Her wit was razor sharp and she was known to say the most shocking thing she could think of, in hopes of helping you see a new perspective. She made her whole family laugh with her outrageous and exaggerated facial expressions, and all her silly sayings. She was kind, generous and compassionate. Even when she spoke in anger, she was often the first to apologize to try to heal what was broken and tell them how she loved them "Infinity and Beyond". She loved her friends and family.
NaTasha was also blessed with a green thumb and always knew the tricks for growing more plants or how to transplant flowers. She loved traveling the world and was blessed with many unique experiences. We were lucky to enjoy many road trips together. In her spare time she would often be involved in some sort of crafty hobby. She had a unique way of expressing herself through words and letters, she was a natural. She possessed a beautiful writing ability along with being an enthusiast for collectibles. Her family was her sole focus, and she worried over and took care of them until the end, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs.
NaTasha was a free spirit. She valued loyalty, honesty, and authenticity. She loved music, specifically hip hop and R&B, artists, and songs spanning the 70's, 80's, and 90's. NaTasha lived a beautiful, dignified life. A discerning woman of exquisite taste, she provided comfort and solace while asking little in return. NaTasha excelled at propping up members of her family and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives as well. Whether that was letting a family member stay in her home in difficult times or simply being a listening ear. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others. NaTasha will be desperately missed by all those that she's left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this unexpected loss. She was One in a Million and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
NaTasha was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Lola B. McKinney, her mother Dorothy McKinney, her beloved son NaJayé Owens, and her uncle Ezra McKinney.
She leaves to mourn her death and infinitely cherish her memory, her eternal loving family: Father Edward Franklin Daughters: Na'Tyia Howard, Wynter Walton, Miracle Griffin, Mi'Angel Griffin Brother: Marquis McKinney Sisters: Shavon Baker and Gabrielle Jackson Grandchildren: Naomi and Ayden Gray Nieces: Kiera Brown, JaKiera Brown, Jada Brown and Dajah Franklin Nephews: Jamaal Franklin, Aaron Eggleston, Thomas Franklin, Brian Jackson, The McKinney family and the Mitchell family. As well as a host of honorable aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Our family would like to extend a deep appreciation to Promedica Oncology and the staff, and everyone who has provided care to NaTasha these last few months. As a family, we will be forever grateful for the support and kindness shown. She will be missed dearly. Her departure comes as a great shock and a deep wound, it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply in her wide network of community.
The family deeply appreciates your support during this time. The family also wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many comforting messages, prayers, flowers, and other expressions of kindness and concerns evident at this time in thought and deed. May Jehovah add a blessing to each of you and may he grant safe passage to those who traveled so far.
