Nick Joseph Hodak

Nick Hodak, age 56, passed away in Naples, Florida on August 9, 2025. Born on August 21, 1968 in Toledo, Ohio, he was an inquisitive and outgoing child, with a natural curiosity and quick wit about people and the world. He loved all sports and met many of his lifelong friends playing basketball and baseball. Hodie, as his friends would refer to him, was a proud graduate of St. John's Jesuit High School class of 1986. With a free throw percentage of 92.6, Nick remains written in the school and OHSAA's history books. If you knew Nick, you knew he graduated from The Ohio State University. During his time as a Buckeye, he played basketball under Randy Ayers from 1989-1991 where he contributed to their first Big Ten championship in 20 years. Often joking he was there to keep up the team's GPA, he graduated with honors and three degrees. After college, utilizing his people skills, humor, and smarts, he went on to have a successful career in sales. Throughout his life, he remained a fan of Buckeye sports, reading up on sports news every morning on his iPad, and attending every major Ohio State Football and Basketball game. He loved living in the sunshine and warmth of Naples, Florida. While there he enjoyed the beach, biking, swimming, fishing, and boating. Nick would want to be remembered for the moments he brought you joy, made you laugh, or enjoyed your company at a Buckeye game or on the golf course. He'd want those he loved to know how much he loved them. He'd want you to remember his free throw statistics and that he was a Big Ten Champion. He'd want you to remember him with hair. His greatest honor was being your Dad, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, or Teammate. He is survived by his parents, Robert Hodak (Marylin) and Joy (Shively) Hodak; his daughters, Taylor and Avery Hodak; his sister, Nicole Hallett (Gary); and his nephews, Logan, Ben, and Jack. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church on Wednesday, August 27 at 11:00 a.m., with an hour of visitation beginning at 10:00.
