Rudolph A. "Rudy" Schroeder, 85, of Chippewa Manor Nursing Home, Chippewa Falls, died Friday evening, Nov. 14, 2008, at the Chippewa Manor.
He was born Oct. 11, 1923, in Evansville, Minn., to Johanna (Svenosen) and John Schroeder. He graduated from Evansville High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.
Rudy attended North Dakota State University in Fargo where he earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry. He earned his master's degree and his Ph.D. in chemistry at Kansas State University.
He was employed as a research scientist in the Washington D.C./Maryland area and then was a professor of chemistry for many years at the University of Southern Louisiana. Rudy married Dale McLean on May 7, 1966, in Lafayette, La. After his retirement they moved to Baton Rouge, La.
Rudy's wife preceded him in death on April 11, 2003. Following her death, he moved to Chippewa Falls to make his home with his brother, Paul. Rudy has been a resident of the Chippewa Manor Nursing Home since 2005.
Survivors include: a foster daughter Vicki (Lee) Willie of Livingston, La.; four brothers, Paul (Hope) Schroeder of Chippewa Falls, Ted (Helen) Schroeder of Palm Desert, Calif., Herman (Esther) Schroeder of Duluth, Minn., William "Bill" (Elvina) Schroeder of Evansville, Minn.; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Besides his wife, Rudy is preceded in death by: his parents; one sister Maria Reister; and five brothers, James, Robert, Edward, Henry, and John Schroeder.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Chapel of the Resurrection at the Chippewa Manor, Rev. Fr. Robert Hoekstra will officiate. Friends may call one half hour prior to the service at the chapel.
