Clarence Walter Swain, Jr., 77, Gas City, passed away at 7:12 am on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial in Muncie. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Thursday, February 12, 1948, to Clarence and Cora (Fletcher) Swain, Sr. On April 25, 1969, he married Kathie I. Hatfield; she survives.
Junior attended Marion High School and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later worked as a mule driver at RCA for 38 years when he retired at the time of the factory's closing. Car shows were his love, having several classic cars over the years. His 1949 Mercury was the one that stuck and was his baby, having won many awards at the car shows which he would attend with friends and family. He was one for keeping his yard mowed and trimmed, sometimes mowing the yard every other day. Sitting in his 1950's themed room brought him peace.
Along with his wife he is survived by his son, Jason (Jenna) Swain of Gas City; grandchildren, Ivymarie, Brinleigh, and Bodie; brothers, William (Madalyn) Swain of Marion, Sam (Tina) Swain of Gas City; brother-in-law, Jim Haggard of Marion; sister-in-law, Glenna Hatfield of Jonesboro; special nephew and niece, Jeff (Christie) Curtis, Jennifer Atkinson; special great-nephews and niece, Jack, Jake and Caitlyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria Ann Haggard; and brother, Roger Swain.
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
