Claribel (Hart) Whybrew was born in Warren, Indiana to Guy and Lena (Crum) Hart on July 17,1924. A long-time former Marion resident, she passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023 in California where she had resided with her daughter since 2014. Clair will always be lovingly remembered as one who served quietly behind the scenes with a wonderful sweet smile.
After graduation from Warren High School, Clair received her Registered Nursing Degree from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne. She began her nursing career in the OB/GYN department at Marion General Hospital and retired as an Industrial nurse from Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Gas City. A long-time active member of Temple Congregational Church in Marion, she once took part on a mission work team that traveled to a Virginia town that had been ravaged by two seasons of flooding. Clair loved to travel and she and her sister, Hazel, did so throughout the United States and all over the world, including Africa, India, and Australia. In the 1970's, she joined the Wandering Wheels bicycling group from Upland, IN and had many wonderful adventures riding on crosscountry bicycle trips up through 2006. Her most extensive ride was a three-week trip from Arizona to Montana.
Clair is survived by her daughter, Janet Crago, grandchildren Amy (Martin) Combs and Lee (Collyn) Crago, great-grandsons Thomas and Jack Crago, all of California, nephews Ron (Fumiko) Goss of California, Robert (Deena) Finney of Marion, and John (Pam) Finney of La Fontaine. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Helen Finney and Hazel Wilson.
