Darrell L. Barber, born on September 13, 1959, in Marion, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a beloved figure within his community, known for his warmth and dedication.
Darrell devoted over thirty years of his life to the Chronicle-Tribune, where he contributed his talents in the mail room until his retirement in 2022. His commitment to his work reflected his strong work ethic and his desire to serve those around him.
Outside of his career, Darrell had a rich tapestry of interests that included a profound passion for history. He enjoyed participating in re-enactments, specifically reliving moments from the War of 1812, where he portrayed an Indian. His love for history was matched only by his enthusiasm for travel, particularly to the beautiful landscapes of Colorado. A connoisseur of vintage cars and airplanes, Darrell found joy in the intricacies of machinery and the stories they held.
As a fan of Evel Knievel, he appreciated the thrill of adventure and daredevil feats. A dedicated NFL supporter, Darrell cheered for several teams, including the Chiefs, Broncos, Seahawks, and Colts, fostering countless spirited conversations with fellow enthusiasts.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Ruth Barber, and his siblings, Larry, Allen, and Janet Barber. He is survived by his sister, Carol Murphy, and his nephew, Connor Murphy, who cherished their time with him and will carry forward his legacy of kindness and passion.
Friends and family are invited to honor Darrell's memory at the Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home in Marion, Indiana, on April 30, 2025. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:15 PM.
