Jerry Scott Obituary

Jerry Dale Scott took his last breath on earth and joined the Lord above on November 5, 2021 at 2:07 am after a hard but short battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Jerry was born on June 29, 1940 to Milton and Sophie Scott in Fairmount, Indiana. He grew up in a large family of 13 siblings. He loved to share stories of his childhood that resulted in some deep belly laughs. Some of his most memorable times were reuniting with his siblings and family at the Scott reunions.

On March 8, 1963, he married Carolyn "Sue" Croom. During the course of their marriage of 58 years, they resided in Marion, Jonesboro and Gas City where they still maintain a loving home. During the early years, they enjoyed spending time on fishing vacations, cooking for the UAW outings and spending time with friends. Later in their lives, they enjoyed eating at restaurants out of town, especially Casas where Jerry loved going as he made friends with a lot of the staff. They attend Grace Community Church and share their love for the Lord together.

On Feb 11, 1965, Jerry became a father for the first and only time to a daughter, Lisa. Jerry was an amazing daddy just as he was a husband. Jerry and Lisa shared a large bond, especially over their love for basketball. They would often practice for hours on the backyard court. He never missed a basketball game where he could often be heard yelling at the refs from the stands. He spent years in the summer helping coach and cheer Lisa during the softball season. No matter what sport, he was there as her number-one fan. He also left Lisa with a lot of fun memories and life lessons such as, how to can cars, throw eggs, moon people and most importantly mow a straight line.

Jerry was a hard worker and always supported his family. He worked for General Motors/Fisher Body for 32 years where he retired in 1997. However, the majority of those years he also worked two jobs. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years, ran a Snapper Lawn mowing business, was a volunteer Fire Fighter for 10 years and helped maintain the lawns in the community he so loved for 25 years. Jerry took pride in all he did. He was an amazingly loving guy who wore his heart on his sleeve. To know Jerry was to love him. He never met a stranger and once he met you he considered you a friend. He was soft-hearted and often got chocked up over the little things; a strength that all should have. He volunteered and loved to give to others, such as donating to the needy by delivering food and clothes during the holidays, having fish fries for the city employees or simply buying a cup of coffee for someone to warm their hands. Besides time with his family, he loved fishing with his buddies both on and off the ICE. He loved NASCAR and IU basketball especially, Bobby Knight. And golfing in the Beaner Bash for many years. Jerry will always be remembered for having a huge heart and it showed in all that he did.

Jerry leaves behind a loving wife, Sue; a daughter, Lisa and her partner, Kimmy; a dog, Mazi; and two grand-dogs, Plunk and Bagger. He also leaves one half-Sister, Lori who he just recently met and who still survives as well as numerous nieces and nephews and family.

The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

A funeral service to celebrate Jerry's life will begin at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 12, 201 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. At Jerry's request, cremation will follow.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer's Association 50 E. 91st St., Ste. 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209-4830 or Marion-Grant County Humane Society P.O. Box 1921, Marion, IN 46952 in lieu of flowers.
