Ruth Custer Obituary

Ruth Ann Custer, a beloved member of the Marion community, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 6, 2024, aged 86, at Miller's Merry Manor, surrounded by family. Born on June 26, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Ruth Hoover, Frostburg, Pennsylvania.

Ruth Ann, a graduate of Punxsutawney High School, spent her early years on a dairy farm where her love for Holstein cows blossomed. She was known for her skill as a seamstress, crocheting Christmas ornaments and afghans every year for her grandchildren, her passion for NASCAR racing, particularly her admiration for Dale Earnhardt Jr., and her fondness for all things Disney. She found great joy in caring for others and took care of many children over the years, and was affectionately known as 'Grammie' by those she cared for. She was a loving homemaker. She worked at JoAnn Fabrics and Mary Lester Fabrics for many years. Ruth Ann's nurturing spirit led her to a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Miller's Merry Manor in Peru, where she touched the lives of many with her compassionate care. She faithfully attended Hanfield United Methodist Church for many years.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Winona Farr, Jonesboro, Vonda (Tim) Hanson, Marion, Kimberly (David) Coxson, Hubbard, Ohio, and James (Kylie) Wortinger, Marion, as well as her daughter-in-law, Sherrill (Rodney) Howard, Van Buren. She is also survived by her brother, Dale Hoover, Lawton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Robert Farr, Nicholas (Jenny) Hanson, Aaron Hanson, Hayden Coxson, Isaac Coxson, Joella Coxson, Ethen Wortinger, Mary Hebner, Brian (Mae) Howard, and Tina (Pete) Boardman; great-grandchildren, Genevieve Farr, Caspian Hanson, John Hebner, Cadence Howard, Titus Howard, Conner (Mary) Farr, Clayton (MaKayla) Farr, Collin Farr, and Caleb Farr. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Wesley Custer; sisters, Aileen Knox and Jane Dinger; brothers, Don Hoover and Earl Hoover; and son-in-law, Paul Farr.

Funeral services for Ruth Ann will be held at the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services located at 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., with an additional hour of visitation before the funeral on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will be officiated by Pastors Donald Miller and David Coxson. Burial will take place at a later date at Grant Memorial Park.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Miller's Merry Manor in Marion, for their excellent care the last four years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Gilead Ministries or Cancer Care of Marion in honor of Ruth Ann's memory. Online condolences and memories can be shared at www.armeshunt funeralhome.com.
