Wilbur Mitchener Obituary
Wilbur Eugene "Gene" Mitchener, Jr., 70, Marion, passed away at 1:22 pm on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. He was born in Fairmount on Wednesday, October 25, 1950, to Wilbur, Sr. and Shirley (Hurlock) Mitchener. On June 23, 1984, he married Thayla Jo, and she preceded him in death on December 21, 1999.
Gene graduated from Marion High School and served in the Army 82nd Airborne unit. He worked the bulk of his career at Active Products and retired from Atlas Foundry. He was Past President of UAW 977. He particularly had interests in golf, bowling, and softball.
Survivors include his daughters, Marcy Fouce of Marion, Karri (Bruce) Richard of Marion, and Tristi (Ryan) Lanter-Perkins of Marion; brother, Dale (Debbie) Mitchener of Coralville, IA; granddaughters, Brittney (Joey) Wilson, Lea Richard, and Kaytlyn Richard; grandsons, Jalen (Mia Sanchez) Lanter and Kellen Lanter; great-grandson, Dominic Wilson; and great-granddaughters, Mia Wilson and Lyla Lanter.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Deb Bissell.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Gene's life will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place at Estates of Serenity.
Memorial contributions may be directed to D.A.V. Bldg. 14, Rm. 135, 1700 E. 38th St., Marion, IN 46953.
