Mr. Donald Kevin Koeppen, Sr. aka "Sarge", age 71, of Lecanto, Florida, was born May 7, 1952 in Kingston, NY, son of Donald E. (Brandt) and Marguerite (Ashdown) Koeppen. He passed away on October 13, 2023 in Inverness, FL.
Sarge was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and was a career law enforcement officer, sergeant and chief. He served 35 years with the Town of Ulster Police Department, as well as various other departments and capacities.
Donald was a matter-of-fact guy with a sense of humor, and he was a talented man. He was an avid HAM Radio Operator with the call-sign N2WCY, played the trumpet, enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and hunting. He was a member of American Legion Post #155 and Legion Riders, Crystal River, National Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers (NARLEO) and was a volunteer with the Citrus County Sheriff's Department.
Mr. Koeppen was predeceased by his parents Donald and Marguerite Koeppen, 2 brothers, Edward and William Koeppen. He is survived by wife, Kathleen (Healy) Koeppen of Lecanto, FL, daughter, Michelle Koeppen (Patrick) Firth, son, Donald Kevin (Anna) Koeppen, Jr., 2 sisters; Joanne (Frank) Rozanski and Andrea Koeppen, 2 grandchildren; Brett (Amber) Borjeson, and Kristina Borjeson, 3 great grandchildren, Lilith, Skylar and Ragnar as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hooper Funeral Homes & Crematory. The Service of Remembrance for Mr. Donald Kevin Koeppen, Sr. will be held 3:00 PM, Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Homosassa Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, Thursday at the Homosassa Chapel. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial donations to Saint Jude's Cancer Research.
