Lawrence Woods Obituary

Lawrence H. (Buddy) Woods 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and son. A lifelong Floridian, he began his new life with his Lord and Savior on February 6, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Buddy was born on September 5, 1938 in Crystal River, Florida.
He is predeceased in death by his parents Arthur & Annie Lee Woods, Brother Danny, sister Kiddie Lee. Buddy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Charlyne Van Ness Woods, son Lawrence H. (Larry) Woods, Jr. (Kay), granddaughter Kate Annsley Woods (Ellerslie, GA.), and brother Ernest (Chrissy) of Lecanto, Fl. Buddy was loved by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Buddy's family grew up working in the commercial fishing industry in Crystal River. Immediately following his high school graduation from Crystal River High School, Buddy proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Submarine USS Trutta SS421.
In 1964, he began working for Florida Power Corporation (now Duke Energy) as part of the line crew. While working for FPC, he attended St. Petersburg Junior College earning an AS degree. He and Charlyne moved to Monticello in 1970 so Buddy could further his career in the engineering department. Buddy was promoted thru the years and eventually moved closer to home, settling in Brooksville, Florida in 1979. Buddy retired from Florida Power in 1994 as the District Engineering Representative.
Buddy was a longtime faithful member of The United Methodist Church. He was very active with both the Methodist Men and Brooksville Sertoma Club (serving as president of both organizations). Buddy enjoyed volunteering with the Scouts and loved taking the boys fishing while camping on Shell Island.
After retirement, Buddy enjoyed traveling with Charlyne. They toured all across the US and foreign countries to visit various flower and garden events. He held membership in The American Rose Society, Tampa Rose Society and Central Florida Heritage Rose Society. Buddy was a member of the Submariners Holland Club (Lifetime member) and the US Submarine Veterans Weeki Wachee Base. He was proud to be a part of the, "Old Timers", helping put on the annual fish fry in Hernando County. Buddy never met a stranger, was a humble, kind man who enjoyed helping others.

Our deepest condolences to Buddy’s loving wife Charlyne and devoted son Larry. You were by his side throughout this battle and now he is receiving his heavenly rewards at a glorious place we can’t even imagine. We, as neighbors, will always remember Buddy and his lab walking the streets waving and talking to us all along the way. Very kind man to those he came into contact with. ❤
