David GEBHART Obituary

Gebhart

David E. Gebhart, Attorney at Law, "The Blues Barrister" passed from this life on Sunday, November 4th, 2012, at the age of 76. Educated in half-a-dozen cities in the United States, and in France and Germany, he was a formidable intellect and, in addition to his forty-five years of private legal practice, David taught and lectured at several colleges and universities, including the University of Cincinnati where he has been a lecturer at the College of Business Administration for over thirty-five years. Licensed to practice law in three states, David was admitted to practice as an Attorney in a number of Federal courts including the Supreme Court of the United States. In addition to his serious involvement with the legal system, David was a life- long seeker of excitement and adventure. As a young man, he obtained a leave of absence from his staff work at Harvard Law School to travel in the Maritime and other provinces of Canada. This was followed by a seven-month trip as Engineer and Assistant Cook for the African voyage of the Barquentine "Verona", a sailing ship. On this trip, David did extensive diving in the Mediterranean, Indian and Atlantic Oceans. His adventure was cut short when the Verona caught fire and David and his crew- mates were forced to abandon ship off the coast of Portugal, and were subsequently rescued by the Coast Guard. As a mature man, David sought his adventures in less perilous situations. He was a singer and a dancer. Always open to learning and new experiences, David was an accomplished ballroom and swing dancer, and had been studying the Tango for years, traveling to Tango exhibitions whenever he could find the time in which to do it. His sobriquet as "The Blues Barrister" was earned by his singing in Cincinnati area clubs with whatever band would welcome him on stage with them, including his long-time favorite, The Modulators. David numbered many Cincinnati musicians among his friends, but the net of friendship that he cast brought a wide variety of individuals to his side; and once people saw themselves as friends of David Gebhart, they found they were in a lifelong relationship. David will be missed by a very wide circle of friends. David is survived by his forever loving wife, Lynn; his son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Faye Gebhart; his sister Catherine Parthenakis nee Gebhart, and his grandchildren Daniel and Hannah Gebhart. By David's request, a celebration party will be held at a later date, for all to enjoy music and celebrate life in his memory. www.andersonfuneralhomes.com Click Here to Send Flowers

Lynn, I am so sad I won't be able to attend the dance. I thought of both of you during the Ault Park performance this year. I hope everyone shows up with something similar to his signature hats, point to the floor and do a spin. I will be there in spirit.

Dave, My Dad misses you very much, as will I. You had a mighty intellect. Dad says you were one of the smartest people he has ever known. Wally made a great tribute to you the other night which made me cry my eyes out. We all danced in your honor Dave. Thanks for all of the years! Thanks also for being such a good friend to my Dad. Best to your family.

Hi, Doug.
in an oddly timed thumbing through of old photo albums last night, I was led to google a few folks, one of whom was you father. I found this obituary immediately. Please know that my heart grieves for you and your family over the loss of your father. What a life he led! I think I would like to have known him better. Blessings and much love.
