David Schieve Obituary

David Schieve

West Chester - David R. Schieve, aged 67, passed away on June 21, 2021, after a long illness. Loving husband of Julia (Julie)Hawkins Schieve, devoted father of Eric W. Schieve (Heidi) and Bradford J. Schieve (Trever), and adoring grandfather of Owen H. Schieve. He was preceded in death by his parents Drs. James F. and Jane B. Schieve of California. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Mary F. Hanna, his sisters and brother, Martha E. Schieve, Catherine J. Schieve (Jerry), Tina S. Leopold (Gary), and Peter A. Schieve, and his sister-in-law Elizabeth H. Hosch (Charles). He was the beloved uncle of Daniel Etra (Dana), Alex Etra (Ani), Sarah Lauer (Greg), Ian Schieve, Keegan Schieve, Fiona Schieve, Julia Hosch (Adi), and Mary Catherine Hosch and great-uncle to Amara, Clara, Collin, and Kabir. Warm, funny, and genuine, David will be remembered for his kind laugh, his great sense of humor, his ability to identify with and befriend people in all walks of life, and his respect for everyone. After graduating as a communications/theater major from The College of Wooster, he moved to New York City to manage a theater. His life of service began with six years in the United States Navy, where he was deployed in the Middle East. He loved to referee youth soccer and teach young referees with the West Chester Soccer League. He enjoyed singing with the Cathedral Choir and men's singing group of Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church. David spent many hours helping others - serving as an assistant coach to his son's soccer team, chaperoning high school band trips, traveling on mission trips to Mexico and Belize, and sponsoring two young men with their college educations. After retiring from Mercy Health Partners as a computer technician, he devoted time to tutoring children in reading and math at Rothenberg Academy. He also took great pleasure in traveling and trying new dishes from recipes he acquired in cooking classes. Above all, he loved spending time with friends and family. Visitation July 16, 2021, Friday from 5-8 P.M. at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church, 1345 Grace Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45208. Dave and I interacted often when I was practicing in and in association with Jewish Hospital. It had been great to renew an old friendship. I am so sad to hear of his passing. Please accept my condolences.

David was such an intelligent, kind, caring, helpful, loving person. Anyone who knew him was grateful for his warm friendly presence. It is hard to imagine how much he will be missed by family, friends and acquaintances. My heart goes out to his family especially. I am proud to count him among my friends; a great guy all around.

Julie and family, all of us at West Chester Soccer Club are so sorry that Dave’s journey has come to an end. He has been such an asset to our club and a good friend. Always enjoyed joking around with him between games and his mentoring of our younger referees was so appreciated. He will be missed terribly. We hope you are able to find comfort in your fond memories of him. Wishing you peace.
