I had Mrs. Kern for an art teacher at Amelia Elementary School. She was so full of life, loved art tremendously, and deeply cared for her students. She allowed all of us to freely express ourselves in our art, good or bad. Her classroom was so big and filled with every kind of material imaginable so we could explore every medium to its fullest potential. I loved her and her class, and I will never forget the energy as you walked into her room and how it carried throughout the class. I was also in the musical productions, and her set designs were incredible. She was an amazing artist and an amazing person.

Debbi's first year as the art teacher was my 6th grade year. Little did I know that when I went on to graduate from high school , we would become friends. We all spent many ,many great times playing volleyball, tennis, softball and Yatzy. Her high energy , artistic talent and kind heart are memories I will never forget. Her loss is a great one.

Mrs. Kern was by far my favorite teacher. My aunt, uncles, and mom all had her before me. She and Mr. Kern made such an impact on my life... I have so many lovely memories of her. I know my family will be holding hers close to our hearts during this time of grief.

An amazing person, who pushed me to my limits in art class. I wouldn't be where I am today without her. Great times at Art Camp too! Very funny and always positive. She will be missed.

Karl, sending deepest sympathy in the loss of your beloved Debbi. She taught both Brandon and Jason at AE, many years ago. I will always remember her beautiful smile that never seemed to leave her face. Im sure that smile was a sign of her love for you and all of her precious students. Find comfort in your memories. Heaven gained a lovely angel.

My Dad, Charlie Proud, retired as custodian at Amelia Elementary and thought so highly of Debbi and looked forward every year to her special Christmas cards. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Fond memories of fun times. We shared our first year of teaching at AE. Debbi was so full of laughter and energy. She introduced her students to many forms of art, loved them and loved teaching them. You are now dancing eternally.

Mrs. Kern or as I knew her, Miss Halbeck, was my elementary art teacher more than 40 years ago. Her smile and positive attitude always made me feel safe and loved. I have wonderful memories of being in the school musicals (especially Cinderella) where she directed production of costuming and backgrounds. I had the privilege of having lunch with Debbi a couple of years ago and she loving referred to me as her Fairy Godmother (the part I had in the musical). I will never forget what a wonderful person she was and will strive to impact others the way she impacted me!
