Kenneth Edward McWhorter, beloved husband of Deborah (nee Berger). Loving father of Allison (Beau) McGrath and Thomas McWhorter. Grandfather of Madeleine and Colin McGrath. Son of the late Chester and Hallie McWhorter. Brother of Deborah (Rick) Celenza and the late Judith McGuire. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A life-long educator, Ken touched the lives of many students during his career at Reading High School and Xavier University. Ken was an active member of Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church and enjoyed umpiring baseball, volunteering in the neighborhood, and being a politically active citizen. Ken passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the age of 70. Visitation will be held at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church, 5950 Montgomery Road, on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 9-10:30am, with service and burial to follow at 11am. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church Special Music Fund.

Ken was an inspiring and compassionate mentor and supervisor for Xavier University students enrolled in the Secondary Education teacher training program for seven years until 2011. The memory of his many acts of kindness will continue to touch our lives.

I worked in the office two periods a day Mr. McWhorter's first year as principal.
I was very sad to hear of his passing. I usually saw both of you at the craft bazaar at your church.
