I was stunned when I heard of Mike's passing! I have worked with him at Panera for a while and loved seeing him in the mornings. Each day I went in my mission was to put a smile on his face, he had a nice smile and laugh to go with it. I will miss my friend dearly. So sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Take comfort in the thought that he is in a better place now and will be watching down from above.

I am truly stunned. This does not seem real. I had learned a lot from you during my 17+ years at Servatii Pastry shop. It was good working with you at Panera too. I will miss you. My heart goes out to all of your loved ones. May you be at peace.

Every now and again, on our walks of life, you have the pleasure of meeting someone who touches your heart in a special way. Mike was one of those people for me. When I came to work at Panera, Mike was a tad intimidating but as the weeks followed I had a few opportunities to really talk to him. One night we shared stories about our pasts and our upbringings and our children and he of his grandchild. it was then that I began to understand Mike and he easily became one of my favorite people in the company. He always came across as a grumpy old man but underneath there was a kind hearted, loving father who put his loved ones before himself. I will miss my baker and I will miss my co-worker, but most of all I will miss my friend and the many laughs we shared before you began your night. You really did tug at my heart and make me see things from a different perspective. Rest in paradise my friend.

I am Mike's fellow baker at the Florence, KY Panera Bread cafe. Since we took turns baking for the cafe I rarely ever saw Mike. In the eight months I've worked in that cafe I saw him three times, the last time being when we worked together for the Thanksgiving bake. In light of his illness I admired how Mike went about his everyday business, taking each day one at a time. I've thought of Mike on and off, saying a prayer or two, since I first met him, and I know that he's in a better place.
