Robert MCINTOSH Obituary

MCINTOSH

Robert (Bob) C. McIntosh whose legal career spanned nearly fifty years, passed away on February 5th. A native Cincinnatian and the son of Robert Garnet and Martha Bennett McIntosh, he was a 1947 graduate of Withrow High School. He obtained BA and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Cincinnati and was admitted to the Ohio Bar Association in 1954. He also attended the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of the Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. and studied French civilization at the Sorbonne in Paris. He joined the Air Force in 1955 serving as First Lieutenant with Judge Advocate General's Corps at Travis Air Base in California. Upon his return to Cincinnati, he became a partner of the law firm of McIntosh, McIntosh and Knabe with a specialty in defense litigation, business and probate law. His marriage to Nancy Allensworth ended in divorce in 1970. Very active in civic affairs, he was a member of the University Club; the American, Ohio and Cincinnati Bar Associations from 1954-2001; the Judicial Selection Committee of the Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association, and also served as Chairman of the Arbitration Panels for Medical Malpractice Litigation for the Common Pleas Court of Hamilton County. After moving to Mt. Adams in 1971, he served as President of Mt. Adams Civic Association for two terms where he also was a member of the Architectural Review Committee. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Cincinnati Lodge.

The consummate gentleman, he will be remembered for his commitment to integrity and fairness. He supported historic preservation and enjoyed architecture, classical music, fine arts and French culture. Well traveled throughout the world, he especially enjoyed England and western Europe. He maintained strong support for progressive political and social causes. He is survived by his life partner, Allen Bernard; his daughter, Amy McIntosh, and her spouse, Jeffrey Toobin of New York City; two grandchildren, Ellen and Adam Toobin of New York City; his brother Bruce and spouse, Carole, and nephews Todd and Brian McIntosh of Cincinnati. A public memorial celebration of Bob's life will be held on February 19 at 1 P.M. in The Immaculata Church at 30 Guido Street on Mt. Adams. I am very sorry to hear of Robert's passing. He was a very well respected member of the Cincinnati legal community. A gentleman deservedly known for his ethical conduct and integrity.
