Samuel WILSON Obituary

WILSON

Samuel S., passed away on June 25, 2014, at the age of 89. Born in 1924 in Cincinnati, Wilson was the son of Elizabeth Smith Wilson and Russell Wilson, the Mayor of Cincinnati from 1929 until 1937. Wilson was on the faculty of the University of Cincinnati, College of Law from 1965 until his retirement in 1993, and served as its Dean from 1974 until 1978. Wilson was also very active in a variety of civic activities, and served in a number of leadership roles on different boards. Wilson was perhaps best known as "Judge Paul Trevor," the role he played on WCPO's "Juvenile Court" television show, which ran from 1975 until 1983. Wilson is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-one years, Anne N. Wilson, his four children, Clare Richart (Brett), Eliza Kirkpatick (Richard), Russell Wilson (Julie), and Andrew Wilson (Susan), as well as twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 18th at Knox Presbyterian Church in Hyde Park, with a Memorial Visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 AM on the morning of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the UC Law School's Domestic Violence Clinic, Knox Presbyterian Church, or the Deupree House's Good Samaritan Mission. Gwen Mooney-Elden Good Chapel (513-871-3433) entrusted with the arrangements.

I had the distinct honor and pleasure of meeting Dean Wilson while attending the University of Cincinnati's Law School in the fall of 1980. I was attending as a "Special Student" under the invitation of Professor Kenneth Aplin while I was a Teaching Assistant in the UC Criminal Justice Department. Through this class I met Dean Wilson on many occasions and by total coincidence I met his son Andrew on campus in a totally unrelated activity vis-à-vis the law school. As this friendship grew with Andrew, I was a constant visitor to the Wilson home and often dined there and spoke to Dean and Mrs. Wilson about my life experiences as a former U.S. Army Officer and my experience within Professor Aplin's class. He was a great intellect, warm and very encouraging to me as I was then pursuing preparations for my future. I reconnected with Andrew several years ago and was sad to hear of the passing of Dean Wilson. He and his wife Ann were very great people and I offer my prayers and condolences to all of the Wilson family.
Very Respectfully,

Samuel Wilson was my first year Civil Procedure professor. He was nice to us, something that seemed rare at that time (the late 1970s) in teaching law. I later was fortunate to become friends with one of his children. His legacy of kindness lives on through his family.
