PONTIUS

Thomas Moore Pontius (Tom), 90, died peacefully at home on June 9, 2015, with his wife, Suzanne (Sue) by his side. Loving father of Dave, Nancy Mitchell (Mark), and Barb Duermit. Beloved grandfather of Liz (Mike Moreau) and Jake Duermit, and Jeff and Kate Mitchell. During World War II, Tom served in the 718th Amphibious Tractor Battalion in the invasions of Okinawa and the Philippines. He met Sue at DePauw University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After graduation in 1950 they married and settled in Indianapolis where their children were born. In 1959, they moved to Mariemont where Tom worked as a commodity broker until his retirement in 1985. During this time, Tom active with the Boy Scouts, Candlepin Bowling league, and served 17 years as Mariemont Village Treasurer. Tom loved camping trips with his family, fishing, travel to countless countries, helping and spending time with his many friends. He especially loved his Honor Flight trip to Washington DC. Tom donated his body to UC College of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a donation in Tom's memory to the Good Samaritan Guild of ERH, Honor Flight, Hospice of Cincinnati, or the Interfaith Parish Ministry. A memorial service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 11 am on June 27th at Armstrong Chapel in Indian Hill. The family asks you to join them at Deupree House, 3939 Erie Avenue, following the service.

Tom would often come into Meijer (Hyde Park/Oakley) where I work. He always had a smile on his face and was very positive. When he said there was something wrong with him, I immediately suggested a motorized cart so he wouldn't get tired. He refused.
