Betty L. Riddle

Orient Betty L. Riddle, age 99, of Orient, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Born in Pherson, Ohio, to the late Lloyd and Frances Neff, Betty was a graduate of Monroe Township High School, Class of 1943. She married John Riddle in 1952, and together they raised their family in Darby Township. Betty had an impressive employment history. She began working at the Derby Elevator (where she met her future husband, John), worked at the Columbus Citizen newspaper, later worked for the Associated Press, and later worked for Wright & Baynes Law Firm, before retiring as an Executive Secretary for Merck & Company. Betty was a wonderful wife and mother who always provided for her family. She was quick-witted and had a great sense of humor. She loved to knit, and she loved to read. Betty was a long-time member of The United Church in Mount Sterling. She was a 71-year member of Sterling Chapter #74, Order of the Eastern Star. Betty also loved to play cards, especially euchre, and belonged to her neighborhood card club for over 50+ years.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, John Riddle, her grandson James Spangler, sister Nancy Drake, and brother Bill Neff. She is survived by her daughter Suellen (Paul) Davis, sons: Scott (Jill) Riddle, and Chris Riddle; grandchildren: Lindsey (Trey) Fausnaugh and Amanda (Kyle) Pflug; great-grandchildren: Shanyn, Madison, Katelyn, Hannah, and Jacob; two great-great-granddaughters, sisters: Sue Hill and Ann Simmons; sister-in-law Carol Musselman; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family will receive friends from 4:00p.m.-7:00p.m. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2025 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 West Main Street, Mt. Sterling, OH 43143 (740)-869-2777 where an OES Service will be held at 6:45p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00p.m. WEDNESDAY with Mr. Tony Mosley, officiating. Burial services will be held at Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, OH on THURSDAY, October 9, 2025 at 11:00a.m.
