Cameron Huntley Obituary

Cameron C. Huntley

Asheville - Cameron Chase Huntley, 26, a resident of Nairobi, Kenya, formerly of Asheville, NC, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Born April 27, 1990 in Asheville, NC, Cameron was a 2008 graduate of Erwin High School and a 2011 magna cum laude graduate of Clemson University. After college, he worked in Human Resources for the City of Asheville and was a freelance writer for the Mountain Xpress. He visited Kenya in 2013 with NewSpring Church of Anderson, SC, and felt called to return to Kenya in 2015. While in Nairobi, he taught English, participated in missions and continued writing. His entire life was devoted to those in need; Cameron had a huge burden for people who were less fortunate. He lost his life protecting someone he loved.

Survivors include his parents, Kevin and Kim Huntley; sister, Carly Huntley; grandparents, Dan and Sue Wardlaw of Central, SC and Gayle and Shirley Huntley of Asheville, NC; girlfriend, Sally Jirongo; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel in Anderson, SC, conducted by Pastor Jake Beaty.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NewSpring Church Missions, 1 Linwa Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.

Had the pleasure of meeting Cameron when me and my partner were involved in the Mars Hill Anderson Rosenwald friends group..I would later be interviewed by him...an that interview would proudly make the cover of Mountain Express newspaper...awesome person...fantastic talent

Cameron presented himself as clear, authentic, caring & concerned. I had the opportunity to be interviewed by Cameron for the Mars Hill Anderson Rosenwald School.

A fun and enlightening experience to share with my history as an alumni of MHARS and thereafter. Cameron provided a space of comfort, where speaking a truth was not judged but nurtured.

Total sadness & disbelief of his passing & to this day, unbelievable!

Kim, Kevin and Carley,
Randy, Courtney, Drew and I are praying for your sweet family in the sudden passing of Cameron. Our hearts are broken for you all and for all of Cameron's family and friends. Cameron, at his young age, set the example of John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." There are many who may now follow his example and witness for the Lord.
Our prayers are for the strength and comfort only our Father can provide during this very hard time. Love to you all.

Kim and family, we are grieving with you in the loss of Cameron. He was such a special little guy to us and will always be remembered for his enthusiasm, his bright smile and his love for His family and friends. We love you all and pray for God's comfort and peace.

Kevin, Kim, Carly, Dan, Sue, Gayle, Shirley, Sally,

John 15:13 (NIV)says - Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
I hope each of you will find comfort in these words and the fact that once in awhile someone comes along and sets the most excellent example of what Jesus taught us all to do. Cameron lived out his life according to the God we serve. For that we will always hold his memory close to our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all.

Greetings to family and friends of Cameron. My name is Fatimah' from Asheville, NC. My partner and I met and connected instantly with Cameron 2 years ago. His energetic focus around a project we are a part of was contagious. As a part of this project, Cameron chose to do a interview with 4 individuals for a local newspaper, Mountain Xpress, we where bless to be two of the chosen.

Heart break only touches the surface of emotions I feel, such a beautiful light, the spirit of Cameron will be missed greatly.

Kim and Kevin,

I have been praying daily for your sweet family. I understand what your family is experiencing as my parents lost a child, my sister. I know there is nothing that can be said to make your pain any less, but please know you are loved and thought about daily.

Coach Huntley and the entire family,
My heart goes out to your family during this devastating time. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you right now and over the upcoming days and weeks. Losing a child is something a parent/family should never have to experience but somehow I hope that God may comfort you and grant you peace. Coach, I never had the privilege of meeting Cameron but if he was anything like you, he was a wonderful person. God Bless you all.

Kim, I just can't say how sad this news has been; losing children (even temporarily) just blows and my thoughts and prayers are for you and family. Getting to know Cam and hanging out with him is one of my best memories of Asheville. I'm so happy he was able to realize his dream; you did a great job with him!

Cameron made a difference in this world. We are better because he lived his passion and the call he felt in his heart. I had the honor of working with Cameron in Human Resources at City of Asheville. Attached is a photo I took of Cameron during a City employee picnic. I think it sums up Cameron's life - running to the "fire" instead of away from it. That is how Cameron lived his life.

Camerons family, I am in comunion with you during this difficult moment. I had the privileve of being one of his student. He could call me his assistant. I am happy because my lovely teacher was a very good guy and I believe that he is resting and have seen our Lord Jesus.

Kim, Kevin and Carly,
I am so honored to have known such a fine young man as Cameron. I will always remember that quick smile, that just lit up a room, when he was at Ecclesia.
I wish I could be there for his memorial, but I have to work. I will be praying the Lord continues to give you strength through this valley. I love you all.

RIP young man. I got to know his gentle soul through Erwin Football. Cameron played along side of my son Josh. I fed the team a bunch their senior year. Cameron was always so gracious and appreciative. My heart goes out to you all...I hope you can find some peace knowing exactly where he is.
