Cobb

Spindale - Dr. Charles F. Cobb, 77, a resident of Spindale, N.C, began a new life in heaven on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, after a two year struggle with cancer.

Dr. Cobb was born April 29, 1933 in Anderson, S.C, the son of the late Clyde and Cleo W. Cobb. Charles was a minister, pastor, missionary, and servant, who for 55 years boldly proclaimed the Good News of Jesus Christ. Charles was a former pastor of Adaville Baptist Church, Spindale, N.C. He also pastured Liberty Baptist Church, Candler, NC; New Prospect Baptist Church, Anderson, SC (Assoc. Pastor/Music); College St. Baptist Church, Walhalla, SC; New Bethel Baptist Church, Cincinnati, Ohio. He spent 12 years as a Southern Baptist missionary to northern Ohio, before retiring to Rutherford County in 2000. He served in ministry for 55 consecutive years.

Charles was a graduate of Boys High, Anderson, SC; Anderson College, Anderson, SC; Furman University, Greenville, SC. In 1978, he earned his Doctorate of Ministries at Southern Seminary, Louisville, Ky.

In addition to his ministry, Charles was involved in other activities that brought him joy. As a young man, he played for South Carolina in the annual Shrine Bowl football game. He served for many years in the South Carolina National Guard. He loved to teach, and taught bible classes at Boyce Bible School, Columbus, Ohio, and Mansfield Prison, Mansfield, Ohio. Charles was a member of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, and he and Virginia devoted much time and travel for research purposes.

Charles is survived by his wife, Virginia, his daughter Marianne Gee and husband Walter, and his son Andy and wife, Cindy. He is also survived by his brothers Earl, Jerry and David Cobb, and by his sister, Norma Jean Pickard. His grandchildren are Adam Cobb, Jonathan Cobb, Alex Cobb, Jeremiah Gee, and Rachel Cobb. His great grandson, Levi Cobb, was born the same day Dr. Cobb passed away. Preceding Dr. Cobb in death was his wife of 45 years, Sandra Lowery Cobb, his brother Arthur Cobb, his sister Alice Fleming, and his beloved son, Mark Cobb.

A celebration of the life of Charles Cobb will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Adaville Baptist Church, Spindale, NC. Our prayers to the family of such a great leader of Christ. He married our oldest daughter over 25 years ago and had a great role in helping our son with his choice to become a minister. He loved his family and when he was at New Bethel talked with pride about each of his childern. I know he will missed but he is where he shared with all of us with our Lord.
