Leicester - Donald Wayne Dockery, age 62, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his residence after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Cherokee County, he resided most of his life in Haywood and Buncombe Counties. He graduated from Tuscola High School in 1968. He later received an Associate Degree in Fish & Wildlife Management from Haywood Community College. He enjoyed an extensive career in the manufactured housing industry, became a real estate broker and was a perpetual salesman.

He was the son of Cleo Stiles Dockery of Waynesville and the late Wayne Newton Dockery. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Lori D. Redding and husband, Kevin, of Greensboro; one brother, Danny Dockery and wife, Donna, of Carrollton, Georgia; two grandchildren, Boone and Molly Ruth Redding; two nephews, Jonathan and David Dockery; and long-time girlfriend, Diana Ray.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Rathbun Center, 121 Sherwood Road, Asheville, NC 28803 or the Francis Mill Preservation Society, 14 Hugh Massie Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
