Genelle Zeugner Obituary

Genelle Marie Peterson Zeugner

Skyland - Genelle Marie Peterson Zeugner, 94, formerly of Skyland, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2017 after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Harold H. "Zeugie" Zeugner, her husband of 71 years until his recent death on July 15, 2017. The couple lived together in Buncombe County for 65 years before moving to Cary, NC in 2011.

Genelle was born in Rockingham County, NC to the late R. Fred Peterson and Emma Lanning Peterson and spent much of her youth in Swannanoa. She is preceded in death by her sister, Lula Mae Peterson Harrison. She is survived by a brother, Jack Peterson of Green Valley, AZ; children Michael Zeugner of Sebastian, FL, Jennye Zeugner Johnson of Charlottesville, VA, and Joel "Jody" Zeugner of Cary, NC; four grandchildren, six nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.

Genelle loved the beach, nature, cooking, sewing, and caring for her family. Despite medical challenges over the past several years, she enjoyed the love and support of her family and friends.

A joint memorial for Zeugie and Genelle will be held in Asheville within the next few weeks, details to be posted at www.wakefuneral.com, where Zeugie's obituary also can be found. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation of America (www.alzfdn.org) or SECU Hospice House - Johnston Health Foundation of Smithfield, NC.
