Hunter Thayer Obituary
Asheville - Hunter 'Trey' Thayer was born August 22, 1993 in Abingdon, VA to Beverly Lynn King Thayer of Asheville and Hunter 'Chip' Thayer. Trey was embraced by the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the age of 19. Trey was preceded in death by his father, Chip Thayer; and grandfathers, Hunter Thayer; and 'Buster' King.
Trey is survived by his mother; sister, Madison 'Gracie' Thayer; grandmothers, Demple King Milton and Sue Taylor Thayer; uncle, Duane King and wife, Bernice; aunt, Melinda Thayer Leland and husband, David, Jackie Thayer Craft and husband, Chad; and so many loving cousins.
Trey attended Abingdon High School prior to moving to Asheville in 2009. He graduated from Asheville High School in 2011 where he lettered in soccer. An avid snowboarder, Trey loved playing and watching any sport. Trey planned to attend college to pursue his love of the outdoors as a park ranger.
Trey was a passionate, adventurous young man who lived life full throttle and without fear. His instant beaming smile and vibrant personality was always filled with joy, making an unforgettable impression on everyone. He became the man of the house, his sister's protector and will be greatly missed by all family and friends.
His service will be held Friday, May 31, 2013 at 5 PM at Biltmore Baptist Church in Arden, NC. Family will receive visitors at 4 PM. In lieu in flowers, donations may be made to the Trey Thayer Memorial Fund with the Highlands Soccer Club, PO Box 1991, Abingdon, Virginia 24212.

I never had the pleasure of knowing Trey. My daughter fondly remembers him hanging out in the neighborhood with Alex Easterling and them playing soccer together. I did have the pleasure of going to school with Chip, so I know Trey had to be an awesome young man. May God comfort your family in this difficult time.

I never had a chance to know Trey, but I knew his father. Trey was a year behind my son, Egan, in elementary school and I have thought about Trey many times over the years...keeping him in my prayers along with the rest of the Thayer family. I will always cherish the memories I have of the times we spent together. It has been a pleasure to grow up being your friend. I will always remember your bright smile, goofy side, and kind heart. I thank God that he allowed us to become friends at such an early age and I thank him for giving me the privilege of knowing you for 16 years. Our memories go back to daycare where we would play outside with our friends, help cook lunches, and even sit in timeout a few times. We refused to let our mothers drive us on our first day of Kindergarten because we wanted to big kids and ride the bus. I will look at the pictures from that day and smile at how stubborn we both were. Middle school brought weekend hangouts, notes, and movie nights. After freshman year you moved away but we remained in contact over the years. Occasional texts and phone calls helped to remind me that you were always there. I want to thank you for making these memories with me. You will forever be in my heart. I am praying that God will wrap his arms around your Mom, Madison, and family during this difficult time. It gives me peace to know you are with your Dad that you have missed dearly over the years.
