Larry could tell great stories. This is a story he told on himself. I'm not sure if it happened to him or someone else but I'm going to tell it on him.
It seems one cold winter morning Larry got up very early to drive to work. As the car he was driving at the time didn't have a good heater he put on insulated overalls and a heavy winter hat. When he got to the car, he couldn't get the key in the door as it was frozen. He decided to touch his tongue to the lock to thaw it out and got his tongue stuck to the door. About that time Betty let the dog out for it's morning constitutional. The dog didn't recognize Larry in all his winter garb and in the dark and began to chew on his butt all the while his tongue was still stuck to the car door. Betty wondering what the dog was raising the commotion was about found him and the dog. With a pan of warm water and a few snickers she released Larry from his embarrassment and sent him on to work.
Larry was a great guy. One of the characters that make life better for everyone around them.

Larry was a pillar of the community. If you needed help with anything, Larry was the man for the job. His knowledge and good old boy attitude were just what was needed to fix any problem. From being a master musician of any string instrument to a master mechanic, Larry could make it work. I am thankful to have grown up around both Larry and Betty and call them my friends.

Larry was a great musician, story teller and friend. He was gifted with a great sense of humor. I will always remember his stories of growing up in Dillsboro; about trying to float the Tuckasegee River on a home made raft made from glass jugs from the Jarrett House. It didn't go well. Or the time he and his brothers sneaked into the tent revival with their dogs. It didn't go well.
Larry offered his time and talents to the Boy Scouts and Community Club by playing at their various fund raisers for many years. He always declared a fast paced banjo tune "A Fine Ole Hymn". He always took the time to teach a kid, such as myself, a good ole mountain tune. His kind of knowledge is hard to come by. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
