Sheila Ramsey Obituary

Sheila Hutchins Roberts Ramsey

Marshall - Sheila Hutchins Roberts Ramsey went home to be with the Lord on Thursday March 8, 2018 after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Madison County, Sheila was born on November 12, 1941 to the late Paul Roberts and Marie Hutchins Roberts of Walnut. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters Paula Roberts Hartman, and Angie Roberts Simpson. She is survived by her devoted husband for 60 years Donald; her bother Jimmy (Lynn) of Elderberry healthcare; her son Christiaan Ramsey (Cheryl); her daughter Kasey Rigsby (Scott); and grandchildren Amber Skantz (Ryan) of Huntsville Alabama, Brittany Christie (Rick) of Kingsport Tennessee, Jacqueline Rigsby and Finacee Dustin Quinn of Marion, NC, and Brooklyn and Jordan Rigsby.

Sheila spent her entire life helping others and was admired by many for her kind and giving spirit. She was an extremely devoted mother and her family was the always at the center of her heart.

Sheila owned a hair salon "Styles by Sheila" in Marshall in the late 60's and early 70's. When Madison High School opened in 1974, she was a part of the original faculty. She taught cosmetology at Madison High School for 23 years, retiring in 1997. She was loved and admired by her students and was often visited by them at her home throughout her life. Sheila is responsible for training dozens of hairstylists throughout Western North Carolina.

In retirement, Sheila continued to work with students by teaching Driver's Education in Buncombe County. An entrepreneur, Sheila opened her own H&R Block offices in Marshall and Mars Hill in 2006.

Sheila always had a passion for animals and never met a stray she didn't love. Visitors would be greeted at her home by her cats and her little dog Mojo.

She retired for good in 2010 and spent the remaining years of her life loving her family and spoiling her grandchildren. Sheila will always be remembered for her kindness to others and her ability to see the good in everyone.

A celebration of Sheila's life will be held on Sunday, March 11 at Madison Funeral Home in Marshall. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, with a memorial service immediately following. A graveside service will be held at the Jerry Ramsey Cemetery in Marshall at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Madison County Animal Shelter at 389 Long Branch Road Marshall, NC 28753.
