Diane Compton, 76, of Wilkes-Barre, on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2022, passed peacefully at her private residence in the care and company of her beloved family.
Born in Plymouth on Sept. 20, 1946, she was one of nine children of James and Hannah Williams Schoonover.
Diane attended Plymouth area schools and was a graduate of the Plymouth Area High School. After graduating, she attended Empire Beauty School.
After attending beauty school, Diane worked for Wyoming Valley Health Care as a registration and emergency room admissions attendant for the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital until her retirement. During her years of working at the hospital, she met and fell in love with Donald Compton and for the next 34 years they were inseparable until God called Donald home.
During her retirement, Diane enjoyed going to the beach with her family and sisters. Whether it was Ocean City or Wildwood, they were sure to have a great time. She filled her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her dearly. She enjoyed her hobbies of reading, doing puzzles and enjoyed her collection of owls. She enjoyed cooking and loved baking and there were always fresh baked goods on the kitchen table and sun tea in the fridge.
She was also a past member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre, until the church's closure.
Diane joins in heaven her loving parents; husband, Donald; sister, Eileen Patla; and brother, James Schoonover.
Surviving to mourn her going are her son, Clyde Fox and his life partner, Barbara Gromel, Parsons; daughter, Christine Gribble and her husband, William, Wilkes-Barre; son, Sam Fox, Parsons; son, Ed Fox and his wife, Mandy, Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Pat Trasciatti, Wilkes-Barre; Mary Jones and her husband, Rick, Florida; Kim Cross, Plains Twp.; brothers, Dave Schoonover and his wife, Allison, New Jersey; Sam Schoonover and his wife, Kathy, New Jersey; and Jay Schoonover, Nevada; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her lifelong friend, Donna Shimko-Fox, Plains Twp.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark St., Plains Twp.
A burial service will be held for Diane at 11 a.m. Monday in Oak Lawn Cemetery Chapel, Hanover Twp.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Diane's memory could be given to the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
