Elizabeth Stanitis Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Stanitis, 92, of Plymouth, entered into the house of the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, after fighting a sudden illness. In her final days, she was surrounded with the love and support of her family while being cared for in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.

Born April 13, 1931, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Monica Cieszielke Zafia, of Szczawnica, Poland.

She was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1949, and was a longtime member of All Saints Parish, Plymouth.

Betty was a devout Catholic who attended Mass regularly. She never missed watching the daily Mass or the weekly Novena on television. Every year, she loved to attend the Solemn Novena at St. Ann's Basilica in Scranton.

Betty was active and full of life up until her passing. She enjoyed frequent trips to World's End State Park and Knoebels in the summer. She was always cooking, baking or going shopping with her daughters. More than anything, she loved being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; grandson, Robert "Bobby" Stanitis; and all but one of her nine siblings.

She is survived by her seven children, Joe; Mike and wife, Beth; Dave and wife, Suzanne; Tom and wife, Mary; Paul; Diane; and Michele; nine grandchildren, Mike, Tim, Rachel, Tom Jr., Sarah, Andrew, Talia, Jillian and Gianna; two great-grandchildren, Elaina and Zoey; sister, Ann Zafia Savage; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Close friends and family may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Williams-Hagen Funeral Home, 114 W. Main St., Plymouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. in All Saints Parish, 66 Willow St., Plymouth, with the Rev. James Nash officiating services. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Plymouth Twp., will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Stroke Association or the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
