Ellsworth "Lou" Craig, 81, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and devotion to family until the end.
Lou was predeceased by his parents, Ellsworth and Helen Craig; and his sister, Hazel Ascani.
Lou is survived by his loving wife of almost 59 years, Carol; and was the proud father of their three children, Alex (Linda), Sharon (Craig) and Brenda (Chris).
He graduated from Hughestown High School and Wyoming Valley Technical Institute to be an electrician. He served in the National Guard and spent many of the last years of his career at Singer Link until he retired.
Lou met the love of his life, Carol, while working at Barber Ford in Exeter. Carol worked in the front office and Lou worked in the auto body department. Lou walked into the office one day to get a key, saw Carol, and it was love at first sight.
Lou was known for his magic touch with things of the Earth, where his gardens were bountiful. When warm weather appeared around April, there was a noticeable spring in his step. Along with the garden, he loved making chili, spaghetti and meatballs, and green pickle relish from scratch. He also loved weather, tracking storms and had all the doodads to measure rainfall, winds and humidity and so on.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, N.Y., with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. A private burial will be held in the Chenango Valley Cemetery.
